
Tox-medic Program
The Oshkosh Fire Department has established a tox-medic program. The tox-medics respond on all hazmat calls. Tox-medics are department paramedics trained in hazardous material antidotal therapies for various chemical exposures. The tox-medics and our antidotal drug box is available state-wide to any state agency or hospital requesting assistance. We receive medical direction from Mercy Medical Center, Oshkosh, WI.
Duties of the tox-medic include:
Establish medical control
Perform "Pre" and "Post" entry exams of team members
Constant monitoring of team members
Treat and transport team members as needed
Liaison between hazmat team and other EMS agencies on calls outside of the City of Oshkosh
Maintain appropriate records and reports
Research know chemicals involved and determine treatments for exposure
Establish contact with area hospitals and determine capabilities of receiving patients
