Council Member Tony Palmeri

Council Member Palmeri is an associate professor of communication studies at UW Oshkosh. He was elected to the City Council in April of 2007. He also sits on the Board of Health and Housing Authority.

Mr. Palmeri has been a resident of Oshkosh since 1989. Originally from Brooklyn, New York City, he earned a B.A. in Communication Studies at St. John's University. He earned his M.A. degree from Central Michigan University in Mt. Pleasant, and a PhD from Wayne State University in Detroit. At UW Oshkosh Dr. Palmeri has served as Chair of the department of communication, President of the Faculty Senate, and President of the local chapter of the Association of University of Wisconsin Professionals. In 2006 he earned the campus' Barbara K. Sniffen Award for Distinguished Faculty Service. In 2004 Palmeri earned the Andrew M. Weaver "Communication Educator of the Year" Award from the Wisconsin Communication Association (WCA). In 2006 he was elected WCA President and will serve in that role through 2008.

Tony Palmeri became known to many Oshkosh residents in the early 1990s when he co-hosted a public affairs television show called "Commentary" with former Oshkosh Mayor James Mather. In 2004 Palmeri became co-host of "Eye on Oshkosh," a public affairs television program produced and co-hosted by journalist Cheryl Hentz. His news website, tonypalmeri.com, in 2005 was named "Best News and Commentary" site by the Oshkosh Public Library. Palmeri writes a monthly column "Media Rants" for the Fox Valley Scene, and maintains a blog called "Talk to Tony" (http://talktotony.blogspot.com/)
