No Garbage or Recycling Collection on Memorial Day, May 30, 2022

The city of Oshkosh Sanitation Division would like to remind residents that due to the City’s observance of Memorial Day, there will be no garbage or recycling collection on Monday, May 30, 2022.

Collections for the remainder of the week will be one day later. Garbage and recycling collection scheduled for Friday, June 3 moves to Saturday, June 4. Regular services will resume on Monday, June 6.

Additionally, the City’s yard waste drop-off center located on W. 3rd Avenue (between Idaho Street & Ohio Street) will be closed for the holiday on Monday, May 30. The drop-off center will reopen on Tuesday, May 31.

Residential curbside brush collection for June will take place on the regularly scheduled garbage collection day the week of June 6 thru June 10.

Winnebago County Solid Waste Facility now accepts clean waste cooking oil

The City of Oshkosh Sanitation Division would like to inform residents that the Winnebago County Solid Waste Facility located at 100 W. County Road Y, Oshkosh, now accepts waste cooking oil for recycling. The used cooking oil recycling container is available to any resident and small business free of charge and can be accessed during their regular operating hours, 7 am to 3 pm Monday through Friday and 7 am to noon on Saturday. The cooking oil must be clean and not mixed with any other materials, no food scraps, no water, and no cooking grease. Recycling waste oil this way will help keep more materials out of the landfill.

Seasonal hours begin April 1, 2022 at Yard Waste Drop-off Center

Seasonal hours of operation for the City’s yard waste drop-off center, located on 3rd Avenue between Idaho Street and Ohio Street, will go into effect April 1st. The operating hours will be from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. The yard waste drop-off center is closed on city holidays, including Good Friday. Please empty all bags and containers at the drop-off center.

Permits are required to use the drop-off center. The cost of a single vehicle permit for a City of Oshkosh resident is $25, the cost to a non-resident is $125 (including the Townships of Algoma, Black Wolf, Nekimi, Oshkosh and Vinland). Permits are valid from January 1 to December 31 of the year issued.

Permits can be purchased at the Collections office at City Hall, located at 215 Church Avenue; or Kitz and Pfeil Ace Hardware, located at 427 North Main Street.

Yard waste from commercial operations, including tree trimmers, landscapers and apartment buildings, is prohibited from the yard waste drop-off center per requirements of the Municipal Code Chapter 23, Section 23-9, (K).

All yard waste being transported in trucks or trailers to the drop-off center must be properly secured with a tarp.

Monthly Brush Collection begins the week of April 4, 2022

The Oshkosh Sanitation Division would like to notify residents that regular monthly curbside brush collection begins the week of April 4th. Curbside collection of brush is scheduled on your garbage collection day during the first full week of each month that does not contain a City of Oshkosh observed holiday, from April through December.

The annual spring cleanup is scheduled for April 25th thru May 13th. Spring cleanup is an extended brush collection schedule to help residents dispose of yard waste. Brush is defined as tree branches, leaves, hedge clippings, and garden debris (no grass, dirt, root balls or stumps).

Brush should be placed in biodegradable bags or bundled and tied. Bundles can be no longer than 4 feet in length and have no branches greater than 3 inches in diameter. Bags and bundles shall not exceed fifty pounds in weight. Place bags and bundles at least 3 feet away from your garbage and recycling carts on the terrace or driveway apron, no later than 7 a.m. on your scheduled collection day. Please be sure not to obstruct the sidewalk.

Plastic bags, other containers, or loose leaves will not be collected. The Sanitation Division does not pick up grass, dirt, root balls or stumps at any time.

Garbage and Recycling schedule for Christmas & New Year’s Day Holidays

The City of Oshkosh Sanitation Division would like to remind residents that due to the City’s observance of the Christmas and New Year’s Day holidays, the City’s yard waste drop-off center located on W. 3rd Avenue (between Idaho Street & Ohio Street) will be closed on Thursday, December 23; Friday, December 24, 2021; and Friday, December 31, 2021. The drop-off center will be open at the regularly scheduled time the Monday following each of these holiday closures. Winter hours are 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Monday thru Friday. The drop-off center is closed on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays during the winter schedule.

The garbage and recycling collection days will remain the same for the weeks of December 20 thru 24 and December 27 thru 31.

Residential curbside Christmas tree collection will take place on the regularly scheduled garbage collection day the weeks of January 3 thru January 7 and January 17 thru January 21, 2022.

Holiday Light Strings

Did you know that light strings and electric cords should never go into curbside recycling carts? Winnebago County has reintroduced a FREE seasonal collection program to help residents properly recycle holiday light strings.

The City of Oshkosh will be participating by having a collection container at the Field Operations Facility (639 Witzel Avenue, Ohio Street entrance) for residents to bring their holiday lights. Residents may also dispose of them at the Winnebago County Solid Waste Scale Office.

The drop-off collection container will be available until January 29, 2022 at the Field Operations Facility.

No Garbage or Recycling on Thanksgiving Day, November 25, 2021

The City of Oshkosh Sanitation Division would like to remind residents that due to the City’s observance of Thanksgiving, there will be no garbage or recycling collection on Thursday, November 25, 2021.

Collections for the remainder of the week will be one day later. Garbage and recycling collection scheduled for Thursday, November 25 moves to Friday, November 26. Garbage and recycling scheduled for Friday, November 26 moves to Saturday, November 27. Regular services will resume on Monday, November 29.

Additionally, the city’s yard waste drop-off center located on W 3rd Avenue (between Idaho Street & Ohio Street) will also be closed for the holiday on Thursday, November 25. The drop-off center will re-open on Friday, November 26. The yard waste drop-off center will be open on Saturday, November 27.

Winter hours for the yard waste drop-off center will be in effect from December 1, 2021 thru March 31, 2022. The winter hours are 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Monday thru Friday. In addition, the drop-off center is closed on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays during the winter schedule.

Residential curbside brush collection for December will take place on the regularly scheduled garbage collection day the week of December 6 thru December 10.

Scheduled loose leaf collection ends November 19th

Other options still available for residents to dispose of loose leaves

Scheduled curbside leaf collection will be completed in Oshkosh on Friday, November 19th. As the city has done in the past, weather permitting, staff will be out during the week of Thanksgiving, but they will not be following any specific scheduled days or routes. Due to the holiday week and staffing shortages for the week, city crews are unable to do a full scheduled run through the city. The equipment that is used for loose leaf collection also must be converted for snow removal operations in preparation for the winter season.

As a reminder, the Yard Waste Drop-off Site on 3rd Avenue remains open on summer hours (11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on weekdays and 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on weekends) through November 30th. Starting on December 1st, winter hours are in place (7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Monday through Friday). Permits are available at City Hall (215 Church Avenue) or at Kitz & Pfeil Hardware (451 N. Main St.).

Sanitation Division has a scheduled “brush week” the week of December 6th on the normally scheduled garbage collection day. Place leaves and garden debris in paper biodegradable bags on your terrace. Brush may also be bundled and tied. Bundles can be no longer than 4 feet in length and branches no greater than 3 inches in diameter. Bags and bundles should not exceed 50 pounds in weight. Grass clippings, dirt, root balls, or tree stumps will not be collected at any time.
